What should I expect?

Your initial chiropractic visit typically lasts 30 to 60 minutes. Dr. Metz will take a complete medical history and will perform an orthopedic and neurological exam to arrive at a diagnosis. At this time he will also screen for conditions that require referral to another specialist.

Dr. Metz will palpate (feel) the spine and/or extremities in search for misaligned vertebrae, joints that are too tight or too loose, muscular imbalances, and muscle tenderness. He may order an x-ray of the area of complaint to rule out the presence of a fracture or other pathology, which would contraindicate chiropractic treatment, or require referral to another specialist. Once Dr. Metz reaches a diagnosis treatment can begin.

His repertoire includes a variety of adjustment styles, which are tailored to the needs of the individual patient. With most adjustments a "popping" sound may be heard. This is generally not uncomfortable, but can be surprising the first time. Dr. Metz also utilizes "low force" methods which involve lighter contacts.

In some cases (such as elderly patients with advanced osteoporosis or other sensitive individuals), only low force adjustments are appropriate. He utilizes therapies such as cold laser therapy, ultrasound, hot and cold packs, and electrical muscle stimulation.

When appropriate, Dr. Metz teaches patients corrective exercises and stretches that can be done by the patient at home, to help prevent recurrences of the condition.

Free Care for Veterans

There is nothing more important than taking care of those who fight for our freedom. Dr. Derrik Metz and Antrim Chiropractic Center in Greencastle have joined with the International Chiropractors Association to provide one year of free chiropractic services to veterans returning from deployment in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The ICA developed this program because they recognized the need to support America's soldiers newly returned from combat overseas. Dr. Metz decided to join the cause after visiting family over the Easter holiday that included a cousin, a U.S Navy SEAL, who had just returned from deployment in Afghanistan. “The men and women deployed overseas are put in stressful and dangerous situations that are taxing on their body and overall health,” recognized Dr. Metz. “This is just a small way we can say thank you by providing free chiropractic care.”

If you are a veteran who recently returned from Afghanistan or Iraq and are looking for chiropractic care, contact us today by calling (717) 597-0028. For information on the ICA Cares Veterans Program, visit
